Responsibilities
- Design, review, and optimize ClickHouse schemas, ingestion processes, query performance, indexing, partitioning, ordering keys, and storage efficiency.
- Operate ClickHouse at scale across on-premise and cloud environments, including replication, sharding, workload management, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Engineer services handling millions of transactions per second and hundreds of terabytes of data.
- Drive capacity planning across CPU, memory, storage I/O, and network resources while accounting for growth, concurrency, background merges, and reliability.
- Provide data platform services and resilient client SDKs to Qualys applications.
- Migrate, burst, and scale the platform in the cloud with minimal downtime.
- Instrument day-one and day-two operations, advocate for the owned technology stack, and contribute enhancements to open source when appropriate.
- Evaluate alternative technologies to improve scalability, availability, and cost efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Math, or a related field.
- Deep expertise in ClickHouse internals, architecture, engines, partitioning, ordering keys, indexing, and query execution.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing SaaS software products and solutions for service-oriented deployments in public or private clouds.
- Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, production-ready Java code with well-designed APIs, testing, profiling, object-oriented design, and prototyping.
- Knowledge of JVM concepts including garbage collection, heap, stack, profiling, and class loading.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, analytical problem-solving, debugging, and technical communication.
- Experience with Terraform, infrastructure orchestration and automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Preferred experience with Cassandra, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Ceph, Flink, Spark, Docker, Kubernetes, Graphite, Grafana, Prometheus, Consul, Vault, Vagrant, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Maven, Ant, or Gradle.
- Preferred experience applying data encryption and data security standards and working with continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
