Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and delivery of multiple products, including new features, technical improvements, and support for editorial teams.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications using JavaScript, React, and Node.js.
- Build and maintain GraphQL APIs using Node.js.
- Design and optimize cloud-based applications and services using AWS.
- Build reliable and scalable data solutions with PostgreSQL and other database technologies.
- Lead and mentor junior developers and provide technical direction.
- Establish engineering standards involving coding practices, code reviews, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Optimize architecture, performance, scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
- Build reusable components and solutions across products and teams.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, communicate solutions, identify risks, and drive projects forward.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience architecting and building scalable web applications.
- Expert JavaScript skills and strong experience with React.
- Extensive experience building GraphQL APIs with Node.js.
- Strong AWS experience, including S3, EC2, RDS, API Gateway, CloudFront, and Lambda.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and database technologies.
- Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Experience with unit testing, code reviews, Git, documentation, and coding standards.
- Experience providing technical direction and mentoring junior developers.
- Strong communication, collaboration, independent problem-solving, risk identification, and solution-driving abilities.
- Preferred experience with NestJS, reusable components or shared libraries, highly scalable web applications, cloud-native and distributed architectures, performance optimization, multiple engineering teams, media or publishing, and editorial or newsroom tools.
- Preferred proficiency with AI tools for coding, drafting, analysis, research, or process automation.
