Base Salary

$64k - $121k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate embedded systems for real-time sensing, data acquisition, processing, and control.
  • Develop embedded software, firmware, Python applications, networked services, test utilities, and automation scripts.
  • Interface microcontrollers, processors, and SoCs with sensors, ADCs/DACs, FPGAs, RF electronics, and photonic hardware.
  • Develop and integrate SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet, and other hardware communication interfaces.
  • Support bare-metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux development across local, remote, headless, and embedded systems.
  • Perform hardware bring-up and diagnose hardware/software interactions using laboratory instrumentation.
  • Optimize real-time data pipelines for latency, throughput, memory, power, and processing constraints.
  • Support schematic review, component selection, PCB development, rapid prototyping, field demonstrations, and system maturation.
  • Develop and integrate networked APIs and data transports for distributed software and hardware components.
  • Document architectures, interfaces, designs, test procedures, and results while collaborating across software, FPGA, RF, mechanical, photonics, and systems disciplines.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Research Engineer I: 0–2 years of experience or recent graduate experience with relevant internships or projects.
  • Research Engineer II: 2–5+ years of experience or an advanced degree with relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • Experience developing embedded software or firmware using C/C++ or similar systems-oriented languages.
  • Proficiency developing and testing software in Python.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded processors, SoCs, embedded communication interfaces, hardware bring-up, integration, and debugging.
  • Understanding of digital and analog electronics and software/hardware interaction.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, and related laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix-like environments and willingness to travel occasionally for testing or fieldwork.
  • Preferred experience includes bare-metal, RTOS, embedded Linux, PCB design with Altium or similar tools, FPGA and SDR integration, DSP, RF or photonic systems, networking, DMA, real-time streaming, low-power systems, research prototyping, and embedded AI/ML implementation.
  • Preferred experience includes REST APIs, messaging systems, bash scripting, PCB schematic capture and layout, photodetectors, lasers, semiconductor sensing devices, and electronic or optical noise characterization.
