Responsibilities
- Research and develop novel machine learning and natural language understanding approaches for personalized query understanding.
- Build and improve models powering search intelligence across Spotlight and Apple first-party applications.
- Apply LLMs, SLMs, and on-device modeling techniques to complex query-understanding problems.
- Optimize machine learning inference for fast, power-efficient on-device performance.
- Create scalable evaluations and deploy modeling improvements to production.
- Prototype solutions, conduct critical analysis, and collaborate across research and engineering teams.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in machine learning, natural language processing, or computer vision applied at scale.
- Production software engineering experience with Python, Go, C, C++, Swift, or Objective-C.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s or Ph.D. degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Preferred experience includes SLMs, on-device LLM training, model compression and quantization, large-scale query understanding, search, recommendation, personalization, assistant systems, and Apple platform development.
- Experience with build infrastructure, release management, and CI/CD pipelines is preferred.
