Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain control and measurement software for quantum-computing hardware infrastructure.
- Write and integrate device drivers for control boards, instruments, sensors, and data-acquisition systems.
- Create clean, consistent interfaces so experiments remain reliable and portable as hardware evolves.
- Bring up new hardware, troubleshoot issues across the hardware-software stack, and support experiments directly in the lab.
- Improve measurement-data capture and management and safely roll out software changes across active setups.
- Contribute to shared tooling, software quality practices, documentation, maintenance, and team engineering efforts.
- Support scientists and hardware engineers in developing and using reliable software.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience programming in Python for tool and process automation.
- Understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including version control, code review, testing, continuous integration, logging, documentation, maintenance, and user support.
- Some experience writing software that communicates with instruments or hardware, or strong willingness to learn.
- Ability and willingness to troubleshoot issues across a complex hardware-software stack.
- Familiarity with Linux command-line usage, shell scripting, Docker or similar containerization, and basic networking concepts including TCP/IP, SSH, ports, and firewalls.
- Exposure to asynchronous or concurrent programming such as async/await, threading, or multiprocessing.
- Excellent communication skills, curiosity about unfamiliar technologies, and ability to work in a fast-paced research environment.
- Preferred: B.S., M.S., or PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
- Preferred: more than 2 years of instrumentation-driver or similar software experience, or experience with lab-instrumentation frameworks.
- Preferred: open-source activity, embedded software development, testing and debugging, robotics, photonics and optical physics, or quantum mechanics/computation familiarity.
Benefits
- Base salary of CAD 110,000–150,000, determined by location, experience, and internal benchmarks.
