Responsibilities
- Operate, scale, troubleshoot, and improve OpenSearch/Elasticsearch clusters, including shard allocation, indexing, search performance, JVM behavior, storage, recovery, lifecycle policies, snapshots, restores, and rolling upgrades.
- Operate Kafka topics, partitions, replication, retention, consumer groups, and brokers, and diagnose lag, rebalancing, and capacity issues.
- Operate Redis Cluster and Sentinel environments and address memory, persistence, replication, connection, and failover issues.
- Develop tested Python automation, operational CLIs, API integrations, dashboards, alerts, and validation tools.
- Use Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes operators, and repeatable operational workflows where applicable.
- Participate in on-call incident response, stabilize production issues, document root causes, and complete preventive actions.
- Contribute to capacity planning, production-readiness reviews, runbooks, design reviews, migrations, upgrades, and disaster-recovery exercises.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant DBRE, SRE, database, or distributed-systems operations experience in production environments.
- Strong hands-on OpenSearch and/or Elasticsearch experience covering shards, indexing, search, lifecycle management, JVM behavior, and snapshot/restore.
- Production experience with at least one of Kafka or Redis; experience with both is strongly preferred.
- Strong Linux and systems troubleshooting skills across CPU, memory, storage I/O, networking, and process behavior.
- Ability to write maintainable Python automation beyond one-off shell scripts.
- Experience with monitoring, incident response, controlled production changes, upgrades, and operational documentation.
- Preferred experience includes Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, ECK/OpenSearch, Strimzi, Redis operators, cloud-managed data services in AWS, Azure, or GCP, and technologies such as ClickHouse, Pinot, vector databases, Flink, Spark Streaming, or Kafka Connect.
- Clear communication, sound judgment, and willingness to escalate risk early are required.
