Responsibilities
- Aggregate data across SumUp to attribute merchant actions to acquisition channels and sales agents.
- Design data models, API contracts, and rules that automate commission workflows for sales, partnerships, and merchant referrals.
- Build the centralized Lifecycle Event Log for curated merchant lifecycle events.
- Develop internal backoffices and APIs for commission monitoring, plan management, portfolio management, and dispute resolution.
- Define and document API contracts, schemas, and integration patterns for other engineering teams.
- Establish testing, observability, and incident response best practices within the new squad.
- Use AI and agentic coding tools for scaffolding, testing, code exploration, and documentation while maintaining accountability for shipped work.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience in Go, or experience with a typed language and the ability to ramp up quickly.
- Experience designing APIs and distributed systems with clear contracts, versioning, and integration patterns.
- Fluency with relational and analytical databases, particularly PostgreSQL and Snowflake.
- Experience building Kafka-based event-driven systems and understanding event sourcing and CDC patterns.
- Experience with auditable, high-trust systems such as fintech or payments.
- Experience building services from scratch in greenfield or early-stage teams.
- Experience with testing, observability, and incident response practices.
- Ability to take end-to-end ownership, adapt to changing priorities, and communicate technical trade-offs to technical and sales stakeholders.
- Pragmatic decision-making and a willingness to mentor and raise the bar for teammates.
