Responsibilities
- Build, evolve, and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant PostgreSQL and MySQL systems across on-premises and RDS environments.
- Automate database provisioning, configuration management, and deployment workflows using Ansible and Terraform.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot multi-region and multi-node PostgreSQL and MySQL replication.
- Optimize queries, indexes, engine parameters, and schemas for low-latency performance.
- Manage backup, disaster recovery simulations, transaction recovery, encryption, privacy, and data integrity practices.
- Monitor database health and performance, conduct capacity planning, and apply maintenance updates, patches, and engine upgrades.
- Establish and document database policies, operational standards, schema designs, and runbooks.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and share database engineering knowledge across the team.
- Provide Tier 3 support for critical production systems and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation when necessary.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on production experience as a Database Engineer or Database Administrator.
- Deep proficiency with PostgreSQL and MySQL, including internal architectures, engine-specific tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Practical experience with Ansible and Terraform for automation and infrastructure provisioning.
- Hands-on experience with Patroni, PgBouncer, Galera Cluster, or MySQL InnoDB Cluster/Group Replication.
- Experience managing latency-sensitive, high-concurrency database deployments.
- Expertise in point-in-time recovery, logical and physical backups, security hardening, and data integrity checks.
- Strong proficiency in Bash, Shell, or Python scripting and experience with DBA tools and monitoring suites.
- Experience in high-throughput i-gaming, fintech, or e-commerce environments is highly preferred.
