Senior Software Engineer
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Drive the evolution of the large-scale timekeeping platform and process tens of millions of shift events each week.
- Build, operate, and improve core backend systems supporting labor cost management.
- Own systems end to end across design, estimation, implementation, testing, debugging, and deployment.
- Ship reliable, maintainable code that impacts restaurant operations and Toast’s growth.
- Partner with product and design to influence product and technical direction.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, engineering standards, and team culture.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other team members.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend experience with one or more object-oriented programming languages such as Java or Kotlin.
- Experience owning and operating production systems.
- Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous, high-impact problems and deliver scalable solutions.
- Ability and motivation to learn quickly and apply knowledge to real-world problems.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and interest in building systems at massive scale.
