Base Salary

$105k - $115k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for the team’s transition to modern cloud infrastructure.
  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud architecture, including Kubernetes clusters and reusable Terraform modules that meet federal security requirements.
  • Oversee Git integrations, automated deployments, and infrastructure as code.
  • Develop software and perform technical research, architectural design, and end-to-end development activities for weather-model verification.
  • Implement tools and practices to improve code quality and detect bugs before production.
  • Collaborate with the IT division on cloud implementation strategy, security, networking, and containerization.
  • Prepare software documentation, status reports, technical talks, and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, or a related scientific field plus 5 years of related experience; or a master’s degree plus 2 years of experience; or a PhD in a related field.
  • Five years of experience with modern continuous integration and delivery systems.
  • Five years of Python programming experience.
  • Five years of software development experience in a Linux environment.
  • Two years of experience implementing and managing cloud computing architecture.
  • Two years of hands-on experience creating, orchestrating, and deploying containers with Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and eligible for the required federal background check and NOAA Common Access Card.
  • Preferred qualifications include GitHub Actions, GitOps with EKS in AWS, Dagster or Prefect, xarray, Pangeo projects, Zarr, Parquet, meteorological datasets and formats, Couchbase, Go, and shell scripting.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical lead, collaborate across teams, work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
