Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for the team’s transition to modern cloud infrastructure.
- Design, implement, and maintain cloud architecture, including Kubernetes clusters and reusable Terraform modules that meet federal security requirements.
- Oversee Git integrations, automated deployments, and infrastructure as code.
- Develop software and perform technical research, architectural design, and end-to-end development activities for weather-model verification.
- Implement tools and practices to improve code quality and detect bugs before production.
- Collaborate with the IT division on cloud implementation strategy, security, networking, and containerization.
- Prepare software documentation, status reports, technical talks, and presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, or a related scientific field plus 5 years of related experience; or a master’s degree plus 2 years of experience; or a PhD in a related field.
- Five years of experience with modern continuous integration and delivery systems.
- Five years of Python programming experience.
- Five years of software development experience in a Linux environment.
- Two years of experience implementing and managing cloud computing architecture.
- Two years of hands-on experience creating, orchestrating, and deploying containers with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and eligible for the required federal background check and NOAA Common Access Card.
- Preferred qualifications include GitHub Actions, GitOps with EKS in AWS, Dagster or Prefect, xarray, Pangeo projects, Zarr, Parquet, meteorological datasets and formats, Couchbase, Go, and shell scripting.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical lead, collaborate across teams, work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
