Responsibilities
- Guide project completion and contribute to the design, development, testing, maintenance, and deployment of scientific computation and simulation libraries and tools.
- Support desktop, containerized, and HPC/cluster deployment pathways.
- Design and build data visualization and analysis tools for interpreting simulation results.
- Integrate simulation and computation libraries with platforms, applications, and data pipelines.
- Troubleshoot issues spanning software, computational methods, and scientific and engineering domains.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to gather requirements, participate in design reviews, and deliver maintainable solutions.
- Define test strategies, review test coverage, and support compliance with software quality and organizational standards.
- Transform conceptual and physics-based models into structured and extensible software.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Advanced hands-on Python experience, including scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and pandas.
- Advanced object-oriented design and implementation skills, including experience architecting maintainable and extensible codebases.
- Demonstrated experience applying clean code, testing, documentation, code review, and other software engineering practices to scalable and secure software.
- Advanced experience with Git or an equivalent modern version control system.
- Ability to work independently on ambiguous or complex problems and document technical designs.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills for collaboration, technical presentations, and advising management.
- Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field is desired.
- Experience with C/C++, scientific or numerical modeling, HPC job schedulers such as Slurm, parallel or distributed computing, data visualization frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployment, or national lab, DOE, regulated, or classified research environments is desired.
