Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Lead technical design decisions for platform performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Design, implement, and maintain large-scale systems for moving machine learning models into production.
- Write design documents and build consensus for new and existing system components.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies available within Workday and the broader industry.
- Troubleshoot, improve, and scale continuous integration software pipelines.
- Collaborate with software engineers, machine learning engineers, and data scientists on partner teams.
- Respond to alerts and debug production issues to maintain platform health and reliability.
- Review pull requests for consistency, performance, readability, and security.
- Create documentation and mentor engineers while fostering an inclusive team environment.
Requirements
- 6+ years of related software development experience focused on large-scale distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep experience designing, building, and scaling production-grade distributed systems across the software development lifecycle.
- Deep proficiency in Python and experience building production systems with Python-based frameworks.
- Hands-on experience deploying and scaling Kubernetes workloads with GPU resource management.
- Experience optimizing GPU utilization for hosting and tuning open-weight LLMs with inference engines such as vLLM or TGI.
- Familiarity with serving, scaling, and monitoring both large language models and traditional machine learning models in production.
- Ability to design monitoring and observability strategies for system health, performance, and cost.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including design documentation and consensus building.
- Experience mentoring engineers and fostering a collaborative, inclusive team environment.
Benefits
- Annualized base salary ranges from $156,000 to $234,000 for the primary Boulder, Colorado location and from $148,200 to $264,000 for additional U.S. locations.
- May be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or role-specific commission/bonus and annual refresh stock grants.
- Flexible work arrangement requiring at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field, with remote home-office roles also able to gather in company offices.
