Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software applications, services, APIs, and platform capabilities.
- Lead technical design and implementation for complex, high-volume business requirements.
- Influence architecture, design patterns, system integrations, technical direction, and engineering standards.
- Identify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability concerns.
- Deliver software through automated build, testing, deployment, and continuous delivery processes.
- Maintain code quality through automated testing, code reviews, documentation, and software engineering best practices.
- Communicate technical plans, architectural decisions, risks, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and coaching to engineers through pairing, design discussions, and code reviews.
- Collaborate across engineering teams to solve shared technical challenges and advance platform capabilities.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and AI-enabled engineering tools to improve software delivery and developer effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, TypeScript, Go, Python, C#, or a comparable language.
- Experience designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining APIs, services, distributed systems, or modern software applications.
- Experience working with databases and applying software design, architecture, testing, and development best practices.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership, evaluate tradeoffs, and influence complex cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively across remote and geographically dispersed teams.
- Preferred experience with microservices or distributed systems, cloud platforms, containerization, and orchestration.
- Preferred experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Java, Spring Boot, Temporal, Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
- Experience in property and casualty insurance, Insurtech, Fintech, or another regulated industry is preferred.
- Ability to travel occasionally, up to 15%, based on business needs.
