Responsibilities

  • Build and own the reliability platform used by engineering teams across IG’s hybrid estate.
  • Implement monitoring, observability, distributed tracing, SLOs, error budgets, and burn-rate tracking.
  • Maintain operational readiness through automated deployments, blue/green and canary releases, zero-downtime patching, automated rollback, and traffic rerouting.
  • Engineer self-healing capabilities and run controlled chaos experiments across AWS.
  • Build automation tools and CI/CD pipelines while contributing production-quality Java or Python code.
  • Contribute to IG’s SRE AI agent for incident investigation and reliability review.
  • Author SRE standards, observability guidance, SLO methodology, error-budget policy, and Production Readiness Review checklists.
  • Mentor SREs, developers, and Reliability Champions on reliability and production-engineering practices.
  • Support system design, capacity planning, architectural reviews, and observability improvements.
  • Lead incident response, facilitate blameless post-incident reviews, maintain the Lessons Register, and drive remediation actions to closure.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with OpenTelemetry, including spans, metrics, traces, and context propagation, plus production use of Honeycomb, Datadog, Dynatrace, or Grafana.
  • Experience instrumenting Java or Python services directly and writing production-quality Java and/or Python.
  • Proven ability to design meaningful SLIs, establish error budgets, configure multi-window burn-rate alerts, and measure reliability with development teams.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines with blue/green or canary releases, automated rollback, safety mechanisms, and DORA metrics integration.
  • Required Kubernetes experience with EKS, AKS, or GKE; HashiCorp Nomad experience is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking and infrastructure as code, with Terraform preferred.
  • Strong distributed-systems knowledge, including circuit breakers, bulkheads, idempotency, graceful degradation, and load-shedding.
  • Production on-call experience, blameless PIR facilitation, contributing-factor analysis, and remediation tracking; PagerDuty and ServiceNow familiarity is helpful.
  • Experience designing and executing hypothesis-driven chaos experiments with blast-radius controls and gap-to-impact-tolerance analysis using AWS FIS, Gremlin, or equivalent.
  • Track record in high-throughput production environments and improving reliability and performance at scale.
  • Strong troubleshooting, systems-thinking, communication, collaboration, mentoring, and automation skills.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and a Flexible Benefits Package equal to 12% of salary.
  • Private medical cover, life insurance, and gym-membership contributions.
