Responsibilities
- Build and operate core components of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering using distributed-systems expertise.
- Improve Elasticsearch components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintain cluster coordination while preserving system safety, liveness, and performance as nodes and data move.
- Increase the supported scale of shards, nodes, and petabytes of data.
- Investigate and resolve performance, concurrency, and stability issues end to end.
- Support support engineers with complex technical problems.
- Own projects from technical design through development and delivery.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong core Java skills, including data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
- Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
- Experience understanding and working on complex, highly distributed systems rather than relying on off-the-shelf services.
- Ability to build and debug features with broad impact across multiple machines.
- Ability to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design and collaboration on component development.
- Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning final outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and transition between projects, codebases, or teams as priorities change.
- Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions and results in a distributed team through asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
- Bonus: experience with data stores, search, analytics, Lucene, the JDK, or asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty.
