Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities
- Own the mission-critical Java codebase powering TripleLift’s Exchange and its high-volume, low-latency ad transactions.
- Design, build, and evolve services for bidding logic, auction mechanics, traffic shaping, and creative/image processing.
- Write maintainable, tested code and instrument production systems with metrics, traces, and alerts.
- Take end-to-end ownership of service health, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency.
- Use Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and other AI coding assistants responsibly in daily development.
- Research AI/ML-driven optimizations and agentic capabilities and translate promising ideas into production systems.
- Collaborate across New York City and Zurich teams on architecture, code review, observability, and incident response standards.
- Mentor and coach engineers on Java, distributed systems, and effective AI-tool usage.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience focused on production backend services at scale.
- Demonstrated experience building high-performance APIs and services in Java.
- Experience building large-scale, network-heavy systems handling billions of HTTP requests per day under strict latency requirements.
- Familiarity with in-memory key-value stores such as Memcache and Redis and messaging systems such as Apache Kafka and RabbitMQ.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts including concurrency, caching, backpressure, fault tolerance, and observability.
- Production experience operating services across multiple AWS regions or comparable cloud environments.
- Working fluency with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or comparable modern AI coding assistants.
- Preferred qualifications include Netty or other event-driven JVM frameworks, Apache Spark, Snowflake, Red Panda, Aerospike, Couchbase, OpenRTB, VAST, ML model serving, LLM or agent systems, computer vision, image processing, and JVM performance tuning.
- Preferred experience includes leading cross-team or cross-region technical initiatives, writing design documents, and driving architectural decisions.
