Responsibilities
- Own technical direction for capabilities covering site acquisition, permitting, infrastructure design, construction execution, deployment tracking, and launch readiness.
- Design APIs, data models, service boundaries, and architectural patterns focused on maintainability, auditability, observability, and pragmatic evolution.
- Build durable workflows supporting long-running processes, government and vendor interactions, physical assets, documents, permits, approvals, dependencies, state transitions, and exception handling.
- Create integrations across ERP, GIS, document management, permitting, construction and project management, asset management, and internal operational systems.
- Partner with operational users to prototype, validate, and drive adoption of intuitive planning and execution tools.
- Build and operate production services with health metrics, SLOs, observability, runbooks, recovery mechanisms, on-call participation, and incident response.
- Ship production code, review critical changes, troubleshoot complex system behavior, and follow capabilities from discovery through operation.
- Lead through influence across engineering and operational stakeholders, mentor peers, and raise standards in system design, testing, CI/CD, reliability, and delivery.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience developing and maintaining full-stack production systems at scale, or demonstrated equivalent technical mastery.
- Ability to design maintainable systems, thoughtful data models, robust APIs, and sound tradeoffs across frontend applications, backend services, distributed systems, and infrastructure.
- Experience modeling long-running workflows, external dependencies, physical assets, complex state transitions, auditability, observability, and failure recovery.
- Experience building reliable integrations between internal services and external or enterprise systems; experience with ERP, GIS, document management, construction, permitting, or asset management systems is valuable but not required.
- Comfort working with technologies such as Python, Go, PostgreSQL, React, Kafka, gRPC, AWS, Grafana, and Honeycomb.
- Ability to use AI thoughtfully across design, implementation, testing, debugging, and code review while maintaining engineering judgment and quality.
- Experience defining service-health metrics and reliability goals, creating runbooks, participating in on-call rotations, and improving systems through incident reviews.
- Demonstrated delivery of high-impact capabilities with measurable improvements in manual intervention, cycle time, predictability, throughput, or reliability.
- Strong communication, prioritization, cross-functional influence, product judgment, and ownership in ambiguous operational environments.
Benefits
- Based in South San Francisco or remotely within the United States.
- Regular travel is expected to headquarters, operating sites, and new-market launches; remote team members should expect more frequent travel, typically a few days at a time and potentially once per month.
- Equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
