Responsibilities
- Own the design and implementation of complex Android features through release and post-release monitoring.
- Set technical direction for Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, app architecture, modularization, networking, persistence, and dependency management.
- Write technical designs covering tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, and migration plans.
- Build accessible, responsive mobile interfaces in partnership with product design and research.
- Improve unit, integration, UI, and end-to-end automated testing.
- Strengthen mobile observability, performance, crash health, security, privacy, and release confidence.
- Partner with backend and platform teams on API contracts, offline behavior, authentication, experimentation, analytics, and push notifications.
- Collaborate with iOS engineers on shared product behavior and mobile standards.
- Review code, mentor engineers, and improve team technical practices.
- Participate in planning, estimation, incident response, and continuous improvement of mobile delivery.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience with substantial ownership of production Android applications, or equivalent depth of experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience with a BS/BA or 12 years with a high school diploma.
- Advanced Kotlin skills and strong knowledge of Android SDK fundamentals, Jetpack libraries, coroutines, and reactive state management.
- Production experience with Jetpack Compose, including state, navigation, performance, testing, and interoperability with Views.
- Experience making architecture decisions and safely evolving mature codebases.
- Experience with REST or GraphQL APIs, local persistence, background work, authentication, analytics, and push notifications.
- Strong testing and debugging practices using crash, performance, and product telemetry.
- Experience shipping through Google Play, managing staged rollouts, and responding to production issues.
- Hands-on experience reading and making scoped changes in Swift, SwiftUI, and/or UIKit.
- Familiarity with Xcode, the iOS app lifecycle, navigation, concurrency, testing, code signing, and App Store release workflows.
- Ability to compare Android and iOS implementation tradeoffs and contribute to shared mobile conventions, API contracts, design systems, analytics taxonomies, or cross-platform feature parity.
- Clear written and verbal communication and a record of mentoring others.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- Preferred experience with reliability-sensitive mobile products, Kotlin Multiplatform, mobile CI/CD, build performance, feature flags, experimentation, automated release tooling, mobile security, privacy, accessibility, threat modeling, and migrations to Compose, modular architectures, or coroutines.
