Responsibilities
- Set the team’s technical strategy on a year-long time scale and connect it to critical business-impacting projects.
- Build integrations, services, and testing infrastructure supporting capital partners, funding processes, and Affirm loans.
- Collaborate with Product, Capital Markets, Design, and Analytics throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that multiply team effectiveness.
- Own team operations and availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call support.
- Set code review and design standards and promote quality and ownership through writing and technical talks.
- Develop engineering talent through feedback, guidance, and leadership by example.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Strong knowledge of Apache Spark and its inner workings.
- Experience using Python or Kotlin for backend development.
- Knowledge of task orchestration systems such as Airflow or Temporal is preferred.
- Experience delivering major features or system components, deprecating functionality, and defining technical and execution plans.
- Ability to understand systems from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to incorporate feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
