
Principal Kubernetes Control Plane Engineer

Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable Kubernetes control plane architectures using Cluster API for fleet-wide automation.
- Develop custom Kubernetes Operators and Custom Resource Definitions for lifecycle management and orchestration.
- Optimize etcd performance and maintain reliable distributed state across cloud regions.
- Implement secure multi-tenant isolation at the API server layer.
- Architect zero-downtime upgrades and multi-cluster federation.
- Integrate the control plane with AI Scheduling and Fabric teams and GPU orchestration layers.
- Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and drive distributed systems architecture standards.
- Identify and mitigate control plane failure modes before they affect customer training or inference workloads.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience and deep hands-on expertise in Go.
- Extensive experience contributing to or extending Kubernetes, including Operators, API Server, etcd, or Cluster API.
- Experience operating, debugging, and scaling large distributed systems in production.
- Deep understanding of multi-tenancy, cluster federation, and API governance in cloud-native environments.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation such as Terraform and CI/CD pipelines, as well as managed cloud services.
- Strong technical leadership and cross-functional architectural influence skills.
- Excellent communication skills for translating complex requirements into engineering milestones.
- Experience in high-velocity, high-growth engineering environments is highly preferred.
