Responsibilities
- Design, operate, and maintain hardware-in-the-loop and avionics test systems supporting production and launch operations.
- Develop automation tools to optimize HITL operations and improve standardization processes.
- Verify the functionality and performance of Rocket Lab avionics components and operate launch vehicle simulation platforms during mission operations.
- Work hands-on with test and flight hardware and analyze raw test data against pass/fail criteria.
- Troubleshoot anomaly root causes and communicate findings and corrective paths to internal teams, vendors, and customers.
- Create and maintain system diagrams, schematics, interface control documents, procedures, and test and anomaly reports.
- Apply appropriate engineering rigor and documentation standards to HITL systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Science.
- At least 4 years of experience in a relevant engineering position.
- At least 2 years of Python development experience on Linux.
- Experience designing and architecting automation solutions and working in hardware-in-the-loop environments.
- Understanding of sensors, signal conditioning, and data acquisition electronics.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, with demonstrated project delivery on time, on cost, and on quality.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Preferred qualifications include a PhD, experience with harness manufacturing and electrical assembly, Ethernet and serial protocols, computer networking, PLCs, relays, power systems, engineering drawings, spacecraft systems, and technical documentation.
- Preferred tools and experience include Python, C++, Linux, Git, NX, SolidWorks, Microsoft Suite, and Jira, along with quality reporting, peer review, test procedure or data review, and mentoring junior engineers.
