Responsibilities
- Own solutions from understanding partner needs through design, development, testing, deployment, and production operation.
- Design and maintain scalable Java and Spring Boot services within a distributed microservices architecture.
- Lead development efforts using Kafka or similar messaging systems in event-driven architectures.
- Architect, design, and optimize relational databases such as PostgreSQL for performance and scalability.
- Collaborate across teams to establish interfaces, support partner integrations, and expand the Wise payment platform.
- Improve testing and observability, diagnose production issues, and strengthen service dependability.
- Participate in code reviews, promote coding best practices, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building or substantially contributing to large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong backend engineering experience with relational databases, event-driven systems, and an object-oriented programming language.
- Ability to understand customer problems, explain why solutions matter, and assess product impact.
- Ability to take ownership, work autonomously through ambiguity, and involve relevant experts when needed.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams.
- Curiosity about the business domain and willingness to learn how partners use the products.
- Useful additional experience includes Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, payments, financial technology, funding, settlement, foreign exchange, and using product metrics and data to understand customer behavior.
