Base Salary
$167k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Java backend services for order lifecycle, payments, device synchronization, and restaurant workflows.
- Design and optimize APIs and event-driven systems connecting POS devices, kitchen displays, and cloud services with low latency.
- Build offline-capable systems that synchronize data across multiple devices and handle distributed consistency challenges.
- Collaborate with Android engineers, product managers, and other teams to ship systems used in live restaurants.
- Maintain code quality through testing, code reviews, observability, and production ownership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Deep understanding of backend system design, APIs, data stores, microservices, concurrency, and distributed systems.
- Experience with Java, Kotlin, or comparable programming languages and strong engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, or Redis.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
- Preferred experience with event streaming or stream processing technologies such as Kafka or Flink.
- Preferred experience with ordering states, payment flows, multi-device coordination, offline-first architectures, sync protocols, conflict resolution, or CRDTs.
- Comfort collaborating with mobile and client engineers and understanding how backend decisions affect device reliability.
