Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend systems and data pipelines for Via's GIS and mapping platform.
- Own features end-to-end, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain Python-based data pipelines for processing geospatial datasets.
- Model, store, and query complex geospatial data using PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
- Optimize database schemas and queries for large datasets and high-throughput workloads.
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs for geospatial data access.
- Collaborate with other teams to align on data contracts and system boundaries.
- Improve system reliability and performance through monitoring and optimization.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and mentor other engineers.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in backend software development using programming languages like Python, Go, or Java.
- Strong experience with Python in production systems is an advantage.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems in production environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills for delivering scalable solutions.
- Solid understanding of databases, data modeling, and performance optimization.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS or other spatial databases is an advantage.
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and production-grade services.
- Familiarity with geospatial systems, event-driven architectures, AWS, and Kubernetes is a plus.
- BSc. in Computer Science or equivalent is required.
