Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate backend services and large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines.
- Architect data storage and processing solutions, including schema design, data modeling, and query optimization.
- Build APIs, messaging systems, and integration layers connecting data producers and consumers.
- Make technical decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and define system boundaries for distributed systems.
- Translate ambiguous requirements into deliverable, well-engineered solutions.
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues and drive root-cause analysis and operational improvements.
- Improve testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation, and engineering practices.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews and collaboration and communicate technical trade-offs across teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software development experience.
- Mastery of at least one major programming language such as Python, Java, Go, C++, or an equivalent language, including language internals and performance-oriented development.
- Experience architecting distributed, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems using patterns such as event-driven architecture, service decomposition, data partitioning, and caching.
- Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, processing batch and streaming data, and handling large-scale data workloads.
- Deep knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, analytical or columnar stores, and SQL query optimization.
- Strong production experience with data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and software architecture principles.
- Experience designing clean and documented APIs, including REST or gRPC APIs.
- Ability to diagnose production issues, perform root-cause analysis, contribute to post-mortems, and improve operations.
- Openness to using AI coding agents and LLM-powered tools for code generation, review, debugging, and documentation.
- Preferred qualifications include advanced Python knowledge, observability and distributed tracing experience, Docker, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code experience, Kafka or Redis, Airflow, React and TypeScript, financial or quantitative finance experience, leadership or mentoring experience, and open-source contributions or a public technical portfolio.
