Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend software using Python and/or PHP.
- Build and consume REST APIs and integrate with third-party, customer, FNO, and internal platforms.
- Develop automation, API orchestration, workflow processing, scheduled jobs, data transformation, and operational engineering tools.
- Troubleshoot production applications across code, APIs, databases, web/application servers, Linux or FreeBSD, and network connectivity.
- Support business-critical systems through incident troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, controlled deployments, and legacy-system modernization.
- Take ownership of technical requirements from design through production and make sound technical design decisions.
- Review and improve code, conduct meaningful code reviews, and contribute to engineering standards and practices.
- Estimate development effort, identify delivery risks, manage concurrent priorities, and mentor less experienced developers.
- Create technical documentation covering APIs, application behavior, integrations, and operational procedures.
Requirements
- Strong software development experience in Python and/or PHP, with Python important for future automation and integration work.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and maintainable code development.
- Experience with REST APIs, third-party integrations, JSON, SQL, and relational databases, particularly MySQL or MariaDB.
- Strong practical Linux experience in development and production environments, including command-line, shell, process, service, package, filesystem, permissions, logging, and networking tasks.
- Experience with Git-based source control and collaborative code review, preferably GitLab.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and controlled production deployment.
- Experience supporting business-critical production systems and troubleshooting across application, database, operating-system, and network layers.
- Experience with secure software development practices, including input validation, secrets management, authentication, access control, and dependency management.
- Understanding of Unix-like systems and broadband or ISP concepts such as RADIUS/AAA, subscriber provisioning, DNS, HTTP/S, TCP/IP, and network automation.
- Ability to understand and modernize legacy codebases without disrupting live services.
- Strong technical documentation, ownership, design, estimation, prioritization, code-review, and mentoring skills.
- Experience with FreeBSD, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift, GitLab CI/CD, Prometheus, Grafana, mobile integration, messaging, cloud, telecommunications, or network automation is advantageous.
- Exposure to PHP 8+, FastAPI, Flask, Django, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML/CSS, Node.js, Nginx, Apache, PHP-FPM, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Redis, Kafka, AWS, Flutter, React Native, Kotlin, Swift, YANG, NETCONF, RESTCONF, Cisco NSO, ESRI/GIS, TR-069, or TR-369 is beneficial.
