Responsibilities
- Interface with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to define innovative Layer1 features.
- Architect, design, manage development of, and independently implement Layer1 software features.
- Develop and maintain features using C, C++, and Python, including code review and contributions to functional and design specifications.
- Build automated tests and test infrastructure for Layer1 features.
- Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring PHYs, transceivers, and other Layer1 components to market.
- Design software control interfaces for managing Layer1 components with hardware engineers.
- Build instrumentation and telemetry tools to monitor and troubleshoot physical link health.
- Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
- Analyze customer-network and system-test problems, then develop mitigations and fixes.
- Own projects from definition through deployment and customer interaction while ensuring delivery quality.
- Mentor new and junior engineers in Arista’s software development environment.
Requirements
- A BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience; an MS plus 6 years; a PhD plus 3 years; or equivalent work experience.
- Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python.
- Knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
- Applied understanding of software engineering principles and strong software troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to design solutions and implement features independently and work in small teams.
- Knowledge of digital communication technologies such as modulation and signal encoding schemes is preferred.
- Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is preferred.
- Experience working with low-level hardware components is preferred.
Benefits
- Base pay is CAD 120,000 to CAD 195,000 across Canada, with location-specific ranges; bonuses and equity may also be available but are excluded from the stated base range.
