Responsibilities
- Lead the platform operations team supporting NCBI’s GitLab- and Kubernetes-based DevOps platform.
- Help internal developers transition legacy software development and deployment to the new DevOps platform.
- Identify and resolve operational problems in a microservice environment.
- Work with developers to resolve deployment and runtime problems across multiple technologies.
- Prioritize issues to keep applications within error budgets and meet their SLOs.
- Provide technical solutions to user requests and operational problems.
- Create and maintain processes, procedures, and SOP documentation.
- Compile postmortems and action items to reduce future outages.
- Interview candidates and recommend team members for hire.
- Train new team members and assist them with technical issues.
- Provide on-call support to internal developers and other staff.
Requirements
- BS degree in STEM or equivalent experience.
- Strong systems debugging skills and comfort with Linux or the UNIX command line.
- Experience with at least one programming or scripting language.
- Experience creating processes, procedures, and SOP documentation.
- General understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, and related protocols.
- Preferred experience includes Kubernetes, OpenShift, cloud, Linux systems administration, CI servers, automation, configuration management, Git, service mesh, monitoring and alerting, GitOps, and Google Anthos.
- Preferred understanding includes Linux internals and networking, Docker-based containerization, attached network storage, AWS, GCP, Azure, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems design principles.
- Strong communication, customer service, teamwork, ownership, judgment, integrity, and willingness to learn.
