Base Salary

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and operate automation, self-service tools, dashboards, and data pipelines that scale Correction of Error workflows and reduce manual follow-up.
  • Lead and moderate weekly GEICO-wide Correction of Error reviews for qualified high-severity incidents.
  • Improve the enterprise-wide COE process and raise the quality of root cause analysis, action items, and follow-through.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for system design, architecture, COE automation, and incident tooling.
  • Coach application engineering teams on incident analysis, clear incident explanations, and complete high-quality COEs.
  • Use logs, metrics, traces, and observability data to conduct root cause analysis across distributed systems.
  • Identify and address incident-related gaps in alerts, monitoring, runbooks, testing, and deployment controls.
  • Analyze incident patterns across COEs and share reliability and prevention insights with engineering teams and leadership.
  • Partner with application engineering, platform, SRE, and operations teams to drive technology strategy, roadmaps, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and manage high-severity incidents and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for production support of mission-critical systems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in platform engineering, reliability engineering, backend engineering, distributed systems, or operational tooling.
  • 8+ years of experience with architecture, design, system reliability, scalability, and technical leadership for production systems.
  • 6+ years of experience with open-source frameworks, modern engineering practices, or platform technologies.
  • 4+ years of experience with Azure, AWS, GCP, another cloud provider, or equivalent complex hybrid-environment experience.
  • Hands-on proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Go, Java, Python, and C#, for production-grade full-stack applications on Kubernetes and serverless technologies.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies, data pipelines, analytics, dashboards, operational metrics, trends, and KPIs.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry, observability platforms, incident management platforms, and high-severity production incident response.
  • Experience improving incident, post-incident review, or reliability processes at scale through automation, data, and cross-team influence.
  • Deep incident forensics and root cause analysis skills, plus strong understanding of observability, reliability engineering, incident management, and post-incident improvement practices.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, distributed-systems design, architecture decision-making, communication, coaching, and technical leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ownership of mission-critical systems operating in 24x7 production environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, influence outcomes across complex organizations, and perform effectively under production pressure.
