Responsibilities
- Identify, triage, and resolve application and infrastructure performance issues.
- Improve observability across Ruby, Rails, and database systems using performance metrics, SLOs, and SLIs.
- Build and maintain AI agents, skills, and automations for incident response, triage, and routine maintenance.
- Use AI-assisted tools for performance analysis, root-cause investigation, and code review.
- Collaborate with SREs and product engineers to address bottlenecks and adopt reliability best practices.
- Lead database capacity planning and upgrade initiatives.
- Manage database disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Oversee backup systems and pre-production databases.
- Create infrastructure and operations documentation, runbooks, and context usable by engineers and AI agents.
- Participate in the on-call rotation.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of Ruby/Rails experience.
- At least 3 years of AWS experience.
- Experience with Kubernetes.
- Experience profiling and benchmarking source code.
- Ability to conduct effective code reviews and identify performance problems before production.
- Experience with Datadog or other APM tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred experience building AI agents, LLM-powered automations, or tool/function-calling or MCP integrations for engineering or operations workflows.
- Preferred experience with Terraform and cloud networking fundamentals, including routing, firewalls, load balancers, CDNs, and VPCs.
- Preferred experience with distributed event and data stores such as Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, Memcached, and TimescaleDB.
