Responsibilities
- Lead the virtualization strategy for Android Automotive infotainment ECUs using Android Cuttlefish, QEMU, crosvm, KVM, virtio, and AVD/Android Emulator.
- Define hardware and HAL abstractions, virtual peripherals, and timing and determinism controls to reproduce production head-unit behavior.
- Model Automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP, CAN, CAN-FD, DoIP, and UDS environments for virtual ECU operation and validation.
- Lead a containerized cloud platform using Docker and Kubernetes on AWS or Google Cloud for globally accessible virtual ECUs.
- Integrate CI/CD pipelines, observability, artifact management, capacity planning, and automated test execution for the virtual-device fleet.
- Coordinate requirements and adoption across Volkswagen Group brands, suppliers, platform providers, and the RV Tech joint venture.
- Serve as the principal technical reference, mentor engineers, and establish virtualization and cloud delivery best practices.
- Support communication bring-up, diagnostics, software validation, and earlier defect detection than HIL or in-vehicle testing.
Requirements
- 8–10+ years of software, cloud, or virtualization engineering experience, including leadership of platform efforts and cross-team coordination.
- Extensive hands-on experience building and operating virtual devices with Android Cuttlefish, QEMU, crosvm, KVM, virtio, and AVD/Android Emulator.
- Strong background in Android Automotive OS and/or Linux or QNX infotainment software stacks.
- Proven cloud engineering experience at scale with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, and AWS or Google Cloud.
- Working knowledge of Automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP, CAN/CAN-FD, DoIP, and UDS.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python, with familiarity in Java.
- Experience scaling Cuttlefish or QEMU virtual devices across Kubernetes-based farms with OpenTelemetry, ELK, or Grafana observability.
- Experience contributing to AOSP or Cuttlefish, extending QEMU/crosvm device models, or performing ARM/aarch64 system emulation is desired.
- Qualcomm VSOC experience, RV Tech SDV/zonal architecture familiarity, automotive validation tooling familiarity, and SecOC or TLS/mTLS security validation experience are advantageous.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, communication, coordination, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- BS in Engineering is required; MS and/or PhD in Engineering is desired.
- Must be local to Belmont, California or open to relocation, and able to accommodate international time-zone differences and approximately 10% travel.
