
Lead Software Engineer - IBM iSeries

- Lead the design, development, testing, documentation, support, and modernization of complex enterprise software systems and integrations.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for IBM iSeries, AS400, and RPG application development and support.
- Lead Level 3 triage, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for business-critical production systems.
- Provide technical leadership for large-scale initiatives spanning multiple applications, teams, and business domains.
- Diagnose complex issues involving IBM i applications, batch jobs, interfaces, APIs, integrations, and downstream systems.
- Support inventory management, operational workflows, commercial accounts, and mission-critical transaction-sensitive applications.
- Review system designs, architecture proposals, and code changes while promoting quality, security, performance, reliability, and scalability standards.
- Drive modernization, observability, maintainability, system stability, and operational resilience improvements.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Operations, Client Care, Architecture, and business stakeholders.
- Mentor engineers, facilitate technical reviews, share knowledge, and influence long-term technology direction.
- Research and promote AI and emerging technologies that improve software development, productivity, performance, and resilience.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 6 years of experience developing, supporting, and maintaining enterprise-scale software solutions.
- At least 6 years of experience with IBM i systems and RPG software development.
- At least 6 years of experience with a modern scripting or programming language for automation, tooling, and systems integration.
- At least 4 years of experience supporting complex integrations and operationally critical business systems.
- At least 4 years of experience troubleshooting complex production issues and leading Level 3 support activities.
- At least 3 years of experience supporting or engaging high-profile or enterprise-level user accounts.
- Experience using AI technologies for software development lifecycle and day-to-day activities.
- Experience supporting mission-critical applications in high-pressure, high-concurrency, and transaction-sensitive environments.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, secure coding practices, stakeholder management, and communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preferred experience modernizing legacy IBM i environments and integrating them with cloud-native or distributed architectures.
- Preferred 10+ years of combined experience in RPG and modern scripting or application development languages.
- Preferred experience with observability platforms, automation, CI/CD, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering practices.
- Preferred experience with vehicle operations, inventory management, vehicle lifecycle workflows, commercial account operations, mentoring, and emerging technologies.
