Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end detection lifecycle, including requirements gathering, log ingestion, query authoring, and continuous alert tuning across SIEM and EDR platforms.
- Research adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures and map detection coverage to the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
- Design and maintain logging pipelines that normalize identity, network, and application telemetry for investigation.
- Architect automated SOAR response playbooks to enrich alerts, reduce false positives, and accelerate threat containment.
- Develop monitoring logic for ITAR/EAR data fencing and NIST 800-53/171 auditing and monitoring controls.
- Execute purple-team, atomic red-team, breach, and attack exercises to validate detection effectiveness.
- Conduct hypothesis-driven threat hunts and provide Tier 3 technical support during high-severity incidents.
- Perform forensic log analysis and root-cause reconstruction during incident escalations.
- Maintain detection logic through version control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Communicate project progress, status, and issues to stakeholders and leadership and support project lifecycle management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Detection Engineering, Threat Intelligence, or senior Security Operations.
- Experience with detection engineering, threat hunting, security monitoring, telemetry, incident response, and security automation.
- Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK, NIST 800-53/171, ITAR, and EAR requirements.
- CISSP, GCIA, GCDA, GDAT, or equivalent advanced technical certifications are highly desired.
- Ability to work collaboratively, solve problems proactively, meet tight deadlines, and operate effectively in ambiguous and fast-moving environments.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed for critical project milestones.
- May need to satisfy export-control screening requirements for access to regulated technical data or technology.
