Responsibilities
- Lead or support application modernization, cloud transformation, platform engineering, and infrastructure-modernization initiatives.
- Assess legacy applications and infrastructure for technical debt, dependencies, security risks, operational constraints, and modernization opportunities.
- Develop modernization recommendations and roadmaps aligned with business objectives, technical requirements, risk tolerance, and expected value.
- Design and implement cloud-native, containerized, API-led, and event-driven application architectures.
- Modernize applications developed in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, .NET, Python, and related enterprise technologies.
- Design and automate infrastructure environments using infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and repeatable deployment patterns.
- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, security scanning, release processes, and software-delivery controls.
- Deploy and operate containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and related platform technologies.
- Address infrastructure, identity, networking, storage, observability, backup, disaster-recovery, and operational-resilience requirements.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools for application discovery, documentation, code analysis, remediation, migration, testing, and modernization.
- Coordinate small delivery teams of approximately two to five resources and communicate recommendations to technical and business audiences.
Requirements
- One to five years of experience in application development, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, technology consulting, or related roles, including relevant co-op or internship experience.
- Diploma or degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, business technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding of software engineering, application architecture, infrastructure, and enterprise technology environments.
- Hands-on development experience with Java, JavaScript or TypeScript, C# and .NET, or Python.
- Experience with GitHub, GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code, source control, automated testing, and pull-request-based development.
- Experience with CI/CD technologies and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform, including Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with Docker and familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, managed container platforms, service-mesh, or ingress technologies.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or comparable tools.
- Knowledge of APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, integration patterns, and distributed systems.
- Understanding of application and infrastructure security, identity and access management, network segmentation, secrets and certificate management, software composition analysis, application-security testing, vulnerability management, and patch management.
- Familiarity with observability technologies and practices covering logs, metrics, traces, alerts, dashboards, and service-level objectives.
- Understanding of resilience, high availability, backup, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
- Ability to assess legacy applications and recommend rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, rebuilding, replacing, or retiring approaches.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted application development and modernization tools and enterprise integration with hosted or privately deployed AI services.
- Strong consulting, analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder-management, and communication skills.
- Eligibility to obtain the security clearance required for applicable client engagements.
- Preferred qualifications include a computer science degree or joint computer science and business degree, multiple technology internships, client-facing experience, application-development experience, and presentation experience.

- Toronto salary range of $95,000 to $115,000, subject to applicable provincial pay transparency legislation and individual factors.
