Responsibilities
- Own features end to end from requirements and technical design through production code, testing, deployment, and operational readiness.
- Develop control-plane APIs, resource lifecycle workflows, configuration distribution, and reconciliation alongside data-plane proxy behavior, traffic management, protocol handling, and runtime capabilities.
- Design reliable distributed systems addressing concurrency, consistency, retries, idempotency, failure recovery, and backward compatibility.
- Identify and resolve latency, throughput, CPU, memory, connection, and resource-utilization bottlenecks at scale.
- Build and adopt AI-assisted workflows for development, testing, debugging, and operations with appropriate validation.
- Improve observability, automated testing, rollout safety, resilience, and production reliability; participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
- Drive technical decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, document designs, conduct code reviews, collaborate cross-functionally, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- Strong experience building and operating production software services with ownership of complex features or subsystems.
- Strong coding, debugging, and problem-solving ability in systems or backend languages such as Java, Go, C++, or Rust.
- Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, operating systems, and distributed systems.
- Experience with cloud service control planes, distributed backend services, proxies, or network data planes.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, DNS, connection management, and load balancing.
- Experience designing APIs and reliable workflows involving persistence, asynchronous processing, retries, idempotency, and failure handling.
- Ability to diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, traces, profiling, and systematic analysis.
- Sound judgment regarding security, testing, backward compatibility, deployment safety, and operational reliability.
- Ability to use AI-assisted engineering tools and critically evaluate generated code, designs, and recommendations.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 11 years of software development experience, or a qualifying bachelor's degree with 7 years, master's degree with 5 years, or doctorate with 3 years of software development experience.
- At least 3 years of academic or professional cloud-platform experience, 5 years of system-level testing and automation experience, and 4 years delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Preferred experience includes L7 proxies, API gateways, load balancers, service meshes, ingress platforms, Envoy, NGINX, HAProxy, HTTP/2, HTTP/3, gRPC, WebSockets, routing, certificate management, high-throughput systems, multi-tenant cloud services, Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, AI agents, and mentoring.
