Responsibilities
- Own the commercialization release candidate validation lifecycle, including release readiness criteria, entry and exit gates, safety verification protocols, risk assessments, and sign-off governance.
- Integrate and validate commercial software release bundles, including passenger displays, the Uber API, command center fleet monitoring, and related components.
- Design, deploy, and enforce automated quality gates within CI/CD and testing pipelines to prevent critical software and hardware defects from reaching deployment.
- Lead validation strategy and execution across simulation, SIL, HIL, closed-course, track, and on-vehicle environments for perception, planning, and control subsystems.
- Lead systemic root-cause analysis for complex platform failures and drive permanent architectural, code, or operational improvements.
- Influence early feature architecture as the testing subject matter expert by embedding testability and safety verification requirements into design reviews.
- Build and maintain scalable test frameworks and automation tools using Python, Shell, and scenario-based simulation platforms.
- Improve test execution, data parsing, and fault triage workflows to accelerate release velocity while maintaining safety and reliability.
- Coordinate software release synchronization, testing schedules, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across Safety, Systems, Software, Product, and Fleet Operations.
- Mentor junior and mid-level test engineers and create formal training programs, SOPs, and technical testing documentation.
- Maintain compliance and verification traceability using applicable safety standards and Jira, GitLab, and Confluence.
- Support after-hours testing, urgent release deployment verification, incident triage, and occasional domestic on-site testing and track deployments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Robotics, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; a master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in software QA, systems testing, or release engineering within autonomous vehicles, ADAS, robotics, or safety-critical automotive systems.
- Proven experience leading software or systems release sign-off and defining release readiness frameworks for commercial-grade safety-critical products.
- Hands-on experience establishing automated release gates, CI/CD verification workflows, and release risk management strategies.
- Advanced proficiency in Linux environments and Python, Bash/Shell, and C++.
- Deep experience with end-to-end testing across SIL, HIL, simulation, and track or on-vehicle environments, including platforms such as Applied Intuition, CARLA, or IPG CarMaker.
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262, ISO 21448/SOTIF, UL 4600, and AV safety case development workflows.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring experience, and ability to influence cross-functional technical decisions.
- Strong analytical skills in systemic root-cause analysis, log parsing, and determining causes across complex hardware-software interactions.
- Ability to occasionally travel domestically, support outdoor road and track environments, and lift and move up to 50 pounds when required.
