Responsibilities

  • Lead demanding device integrations and diagnose problems appearing against real hardware in a live laboratory.
  • Remove systemic classes of fleet failures rather than applying isolated fixes.
  • Improve the shared controller framework and update existing controllers as it evolves.
  • Build tooling, simulators, and test infrastructure for the engineering team.
  • Evolve service deployment and operations as the hardware fleet grows.
  • Improve fleet observability so problems are detected early.
  • Contribute through hands-on code development, code review, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

  • Deep systems engineering experience and a track record of shipping and operating reliable production services.
  • Expert systems programming skills, with Rust experience or strong proficiency in another systems language and willingness to work in Rust, including asynchronous programming.
  • Experience building and operating production networked services such as gRPC or REST, including understanding of error handling, observability, and failure modes.
  • Experience with hardware and instrument protocols and interfaces such as SCPI, Modbus, serial, and Ethernet.
  • Strong debugging judgment and the ability to prioritize structural fixes against urgent issues.
  • Excellent communication skills within software teams and across disciplines.
