Base Salary

$193k - $262k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, build, test, and launch firmware for highly dexterous robotic end effectors.
  • Integrate robust, deterministic firmware-layer communication between end effectors and larger robotic systems.
  • Review vendor firmware deliverables, provide technical direction, and enforce quality, coding, and integration standards.
  • Author functional requirements, design verification plans, and test procedures, and execute designs against those requirements.
  • Develop sensor-processing, motor-control, tactile-sensing, and system-communication firmware for electromechanical prototypes and integrated systems.
  • Support production firmware bring-up, validation, manufacturing releases, and customer deployments.
  • Update ROS models and collaborate with controls, mechanical-design, and other engineering teams on simulation and hardware integration.
  • Mentor engineers and lead design or architecture for new and existing embedded systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience and 5+ years of programming experience with at least one programming language.
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture for new and existing systems, plus experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering-team leader.
  • 5+ years of professional embedded software development in C or C++, including the full embedded software development lifecycle, coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • 5+ years developing embedded C applications using an RTOS such as FreeRTOS, uC-OS, Zephyr, or VxWorks, or embedded Linux environments.
  • 3+ years of robotics-system development experience with hands-on design, development, and debugging of products such as consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive systems, avionics, industrial products, or telecommunications products.
  • Experience with at least two firmware-layer communication protocols, such as EtherCAT, CAN/CAN-FD, SPI, I2C, RS-485, or Ethernet/UDP.
  • Experience debugging firmware and hardware integration issues using JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Preferred: master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred: 10+ years of full embedded software development lifecycle experience, motor-control firmware, EtherCAT or other real-time industrial communication protocols, embedded Ethernet/UDP design, functional safety, vendor-firmware review, production firmware release, and ROS2 or ros2_control on Linux.
