Responsibilities
- Establish requirements for hardware-in-the-loop simulation platforms.
- Select or design interface hardware that simulates spacecraft actuators, sensors, payloads, and other components.
- Develop simulation software models and interfaces for digital, analog, serial, and SpaceWire hardware cards.
- Define simulation testbed harnessing based on flight harnesses and simulation requirements.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to design, build, and test simulation platforms.
- Implement software control of simulation platform test equipment.
- Develop and execute simulation certification loop-back testing.
- Integrate components and flight software with simulation platforms.
- Use oscilloscopes, breakout boxes, multimeters, and interface analyzers for debugging and problem resolution.
- Prepare design documentation, analyses, test results, and presentation materials.
- Work across programs and teams, including space security, NASA science, and communications satellite programs.
Requirements
- Level 3 requires a bachelor’s degree and 5 years, master’s degree and 3 years, or PhD and 1 year of embedded software experience.
- Level 4 requires a bachelor’s degree and 8 years, master’s degree and 6 years, or PhD and 4 years of embedded software experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with SCI access; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Experience with C/C++, Python, and Windows/Linux scripting.
- Understanding of waterfall, spiral, or Agile software development processes and continuous integration.
- Experience with Subversion and Git.
- Ability to document technical and programmatic status for management.
- Preferred qualifications include active TS/SCI clearance, spacecraft command and control or mission-planning knowledge, hardware integration and testing, controls, real-time operating systems, avionics integration, closed-loop simulations, National Instruments tools, and digital, analog, RS-422, UART, MIL-STD-1553, and SpaceWire interfaces.
- Preferred candidates may have experience with Jenkins, Jira, Bitbucket, Linux development, earned value management, and leading cross-departmental teams.
Benefits
- Primary level base salary range is $114,000.00–$171,000.00 annually; secondary level base salary range is $142,200.00–$213,400.00 annually.

- The position is 100% onsite in Dulles, VA, with no telecommuting and no relocation assistance.
- The role follows a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off and requires approximately 10% travel.
