Base Salary

$176k - $267k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support complex research projects involving automated software analysis methods.
  • Analyze novel software, firmware, and malware using reverse-engineering tools and develop repeatable analysis workflows.
  • Analyze source code and binaries to identify vulnerabilities or malicious functionality.
  • Develop tools and techniques for source-code analysis, binary analysis, vulnerability assessment, and operational-technology threat mitigation.
  • Research software supply-chain threats affecting critical systems and networks, including industrial control systems malware.
  • Create technical direction and vision for software-assurance capabilities supporting critical infrastructure cybersecurity.
  • Write technical reports and communicate findings to sponsors, multidisciplinary teams, non-cybersecurity experts, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Develop research proposals, identify sponsor needs, secure program growth opportunities and funding, and mentor colleagues.
  • At the SES.4 level, guide portfolios of complex technical projects, lead strategic planning, and direct program goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q-level security clearance are required.
  • Bachelor’s degree with significant focus in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Significant experience leading analysis of source code, binaries, and firmware.
  • Experience with hardware or software debuggers, static disassemblers and decompilers such as IDA Pro, common binary file formats, dynamic analysis tools, software bills of materials, and/or network analysis tools.
  • Experience mitigating anti-reverse-engineering techniques and advanced knowledge of state-of-the-art software-assurance technologies.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, collaboration, and concurrent-task management skills.
  • At the SES.4 level, extensive project leadership, program planning, technical-direction, research-proposal, sponsor-funding, and strategic-vision experience is required.
  • At the SES.4 level, extensive knowledge of at least one of instruction set architectures such as ARM, x86/x64, PowerPC, or MIPS; .NET or Java bytecode reverse engineering; firmware analysis and extraction; or operational-technology implementation.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant technical field is desired.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, scientific data analysis, machine learning, systems programming, software engineering, formal verification methods, or high-performance computing is desired.
  • Experience with industrial control systems software and hardware, sponsor relationships, or work with the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, utilities, manufacturers, hardware/software companies, or cybersecurity firms is desired.
