Responsibilities
- Design and implement search functionality in a Scala-based PaaS ecommerce backend.
- Build scalable, multi-tenant search systems, including semantic and hybrid retrieval capabilities.
- Work across query understanding, vector indexing, search relevance, performance, and query cost optimization.
- Analyze user needs and discuss technical approaches with stakeholders.
- Test software components for usability, functionality, and performance.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management and DevOps.
- Participate in worldwide production on-call rotations.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer working in search.
- Experience building search solutions with Elasticsearch, Solr, OpenSearch, or similar engines.
- Fluent English communication skills for working in international teams.
- Curiosity and practical aptitude for using AI tools to improve work effectiveness.
- Preferred experience with vector search, hybrid search, learning-to-rank, or reranking.
- Preferred experience developing REST APIs and working with scalable event-driven architectures, including queues, notification topics, sharding, replication, load balancing, and failover.
- Preferred experience with Scala or other functional programming languages.
- Preferred infrastructure experience with Helm, Kubernetes, and Rust.
