Responsibilities
- Own and drive features in Go and Python recommendation and ranking services, including low-latency serving paths and model-serving integrations.
- Make architectural decisions, address architecture deficiencies, write RFCs and ADRs, and build consensus around technical trade-offs.
- Break ambiguous initiatives into releasable milestones and coordinate parallel work where appropriate.
- Improve observability, scalability, cost efficiency, security, and code quality; resolve vulnerabilities within SLA and participate in on-call incident response.
- Mentor less experienced engineers, participate in hiring, and collaborate with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and product managers.
- Recommend and promote coding standards, frameworks, tools, and agent-assisted engineering practices.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience in Go and/or Python, building and owning production services with stateful APIs, gRPC/REST integrations, and high-throughput request paths.
- Experience with Kafka, Flink, Pub/Sub, Terraform, AWS and/or GCP, Kubernetes, observability, alerting, and on-call operations for mission-critical services.
- Experience recommending engineering best practices and tools, including understanding the appropriate use and review of agent-assisted development.
- Deep knowledge of the frameworks and tools used by the team, applied to critical decisions and problem solving.
- Demonstrated ability to make and explain architectural trade-offs, work autonomously on ambiguous problems, and deliver incremental business impact.
- Mentoring ability and excellent written and verbal English.
- Nice-to-have experience in recommendations, ranking, search, personalization, relevance engineering, ML serving, feature stores, vector databases, real-time feature pipelines, A/B testing, or experimentation platforms.
