Responsibilities
- Build systems that measure backend test quality using fault detection, mutation analysis, and replay of historical bugs.
- Design signals that identify meaningful, reliable tests and explain verification failures.
- Build verification for AI-generated code, including independent test generation, behavioral validation, and CI-attestable verification artifacts.
- Define evaluations for agents, skills, and validators using golden datasets, real-bug replay, and regression tracking across models and prompts.
- Measure verification-signal trustworthiness and track health metrics such as defect catch rate and flake rate.
- Reduce test flakiness and make failures actionable.
- Shape the technical vision for verification in an agentic software development environment.
- Write design documents, set standards, mentor engineers, and partner with CI, build, and product teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
- Strong experience building and operating backend distributed systems.
- Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and system design.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction on ambiguous, high-impact problems.
- Track record of delivering technical work across teams.
- Preferred: experience with test infrastructure, CI systems, or developer productivity at scale.
- Preferred: familiarity with mutation testing, fault injection, contract testing, or flaky test management.
- Preferred: experience designing statistically rigorous evaluations or benchmarks for LLM or agent systems.
- Preferred: experience applying LLMs or AI agents to developer tooling, code review, or test generation.
- Preferred: experience defining technical vision and gaining alignment from teams and leadership.
- Preferred: experience with large monorepos and build systems such as Bazel.
- Preferred: proficiency in Go or Java.
Benefits
- For San Francisco and Sunnyvale, CA-based roles, the base salary range is USD $232,000-$258,000 per year.
- Eligible for Uber’s bonus program and may be offered equity awards and other compensation.
