Backend Developer (.NET)

- Develop and maintain .NET Core REST APIs with versioning, validation, error semantics, and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
- Implement Temporal workflows and activities for long-running business processes with correct retries and compensation behavior.
- Build worker services for background, scheduled, and queue-driven asynchronous processing.
- Create integration services that publish and consume events through pub/sub using defined message contracts.
- Model and query PostgreSQL data with Entity Framework Core, including migrations and performance tuning.
- Build and maintain reporting and analytics data paths into ClickHouse.
- Enforce OpenFGA authorization policies and integrate Keycloak for OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SSO.
- Produce technical analyses and implementation plans and deliver changes through small, reviewable merge requests.
- Write unit, integration, API, and end-to-end tests, including contributions to the Playwright suite.
- Participate in code reviews, address CodeRabbit findings, and maintain green GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Instrument services with logging, metrics, and tracing for production diagnosis.
- Own feature areas from technical design through release, support, documentation, defect resolution, and stabilization.
- Participate in scrum refinement, planning, reviews, and retrospectives while raising unresolved business decisions early.
- Mentor less experienced engineers through code review and pairing.
Requirements
- At least 5–7 years of professional backend development experience with C# and .NET in production environments.
- Strong command of .NET Core, ASP.NET Core Web API, and Entity Framework Core.
- Demonstrated experience building RESTful APIs for frontend or third-party clients.
- Strong relational data modeling and SQL skills with PostgreSQL or an equivalent RDBMS, including query performance tuning.
- Practical experience with asynchronous processing such as background workers, message queues, or scheduled jobs.
- Working knowledge of async/await in .NET and its associated failure modes.
- Understanding of event-driven and pub/sub patterns, at-least-once delivery, and idempotent consumers.
- Experience integrating identity providers through OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
- Ability to work within an existing codebase and established engineering standards.
- Disciplined experience with automated unit, integration, and API testing and durable test design.
- Comfort with Git-based workflows, CI/CD, and peer code review.
- Must be located in British Columbia, Canada.
- Hands-on Temporal experience, workflow versioning, and workflow testing strategies are preferred.
- Exposure to ClickHouse or another columnar/OLAP reporting store is preferred.
- Familiarity with OpenFGA, Zanzibar-style ReBAC, TypeScript, React, OpenTelemetry, Domain-Driven Design, CQRS, SaaS delivery, Canadian public-sector or education privacy requirements, and consulting or client-facing delivery is preferred.
