Base Salary
$176k - $244k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy, monitor, and test production ML models and AI services.
- Use LLM APIs, prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, and evaluation techniques in production systems.
- Build APIs, monitoring, tests, and other software components that Product Engineering teams depend on.
- Write clean, well-structured production code with strong abstractions, error handling, and object-oriented design.
- Translate business problems into ML solutions and define API contracts with product engineers.
- Build evaluation frameworks, run experiments, and iterate based on model and system performance.
- Automate pipelines, build agentic workflows, and contribute reusable skills and context to Checkr’s agentic platform.
- Partner with Product Engineering, Product, and cross-functional teams on Checkr’s AI strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent depth from experience.
- 6+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years building ML systems running in production.
- Strong Python fluency and the ability to write clean, testable, well-structured code with solid object-oriented design.
- Hands-on experience using LLM APIs in production, including prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, cost management, and evaluation.
- Experience building and maintaining APIs, working with CI/CD pipelines, and shipping code used by other engineers.
- Experience or strong comfort with LLMs, code-generation tools, or agentic systems in production or operational contexts.
- Experience with MLOps platforms such as MLflow, SageMaker, or Vertex is preferred.
- Experience with document processing, OCR, information extraction, PySpark, or large-scale data processing is preferred.
- Ruby experience and familiarity with Rails are preferred.
- Familiarity with compliance-sensitive domains and tools such as dbt, Snowflake, or modern ELT/data transformation platforms is preferred.
- Ability to work in San Francisco or another Checkr hub environment and meet the in-office schedule.
