Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable business applications using Progress 4GL/OpenEdge.
- Maintain and improve existing Progress applications, including performance, stability, usability, and maintainability enhancements.
- Build and maintain integrations using REST/SOAP APIs, XML, JSON, and related technologies.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions with analysts, testers, developers, and other stakeholders.
- Write clean, efficient code and follow development standards and best practices.
- Perform unit and integration testing and support user acceptance testing before production deployment.
- Troubleshoot application defects, performance issues, and production incidents and address root causes.
- Optimize Progress databases through query tuning, data modeling, and data integrity improvements.
- Contribute to legacy application modernization and migration toward more modern platforms.
- Create technical documentation covering application logic, integrations, configuration, deployment, and support procedures.
- Provide ongoing application support and participate in on-call duty a few days per month.
- Collaborate across development, product, testing, infrastructure, and business teams while owning assigned development areas.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience developing business applications with Progress 4GL/OpenEdge.
- Strong experience designing, developing, maintaining, and improving Progress-based applications in reliable and maintainable environments.
- Solid knowledge of Progress databases, including structures, data modeling, performance optimization, and tuning.
- Practical experience building and maintaining integrations involving REST/SOAP APIs, XML, and JSON.
- Strong understanding of software development principles, testing practices, and development standards.
- Proven ability to analyze complex system issues, troubleshoot defects, and implement sustainable solutions.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to manage development tasks independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
- Strong communication and documentation skills with very good written and spoken English.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Experience with ERP systems or enterprise-level Progress applications is preferred.
- Experience with Progress AppServer, WebSpeed, or PASOE is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Git or SVN is advantageous.
- Knowledge of HTML and JavaScript is advantageous.
- Knowledge of modern backend development in Java or C# is advantageous.
- Agile or Scrum development experience is advantageous.
