Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture and implementation of embedded firmware for devices supporting data collection.
- Integrate embedded Linux devices with real-time sensor processing, including driver development, BSP customization, kernel configuration, hardware bring-up, and performance tuning.
- Debug timing issues, race conditions, and hardware-software interface bugs using hardware abstraction tools and laboratory equipment.
- Analyze and reduce power consumption for battery-operated devices, including radio sleep states and sensor low-power modes.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, research, and fleet teams to integrate devices with current and future data pipelines.
- Bring up and integrate sensors and camera systems on embedded platforms.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong software engineering and infrastructure skills, including experience building data pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and rapid-iteration tools.
- Hands-on hardware experience and experience leading initial board bring-up and software design for novel embedded devices.
- Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, and USB, including debugging complex hardware-software interactions.
- Experience architecting, implementing, and debugging concurrent and multithreaded firmware services.
- Deep understanding of modern operating systems, computer architecture, and compute, memory, and storage trade-offs.
- Experience bringing up and integrating sensors on embedded systems; camera bring-up, integration, and tuning is a plus.
- Proficiency in C++.
- Familiarity with Bash scripting and Python for tooling and automation.
- Demonstrated experience leading initiatives from concept to production and translating ambiguous product goals into functional requirements.
- Linux Kernel development experience, including writing or debugging drivers, managing device trees, or optimizing kernel-space performance, is a plus.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
