Base Salary

$90k - $93k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise software applications based on user specifications and bug lists.
  • Provide technical guidance for data architecture and oversee evaluation of software products and programming languages.
  • Troubleshoot custom applications and data-handling problems.
  • Lead technical communications with clients, vendors, stakeholders, and executive management.
  • Establish and oversee enterprise-wide application design, programming, documentation, coding, testing, and production-review standards.
  • Mentor, train, and develop junior technical staff.
  • Provide technical recommendations to executive leadership and oversee software development project or service delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight years of software applications developer experience.
  • Ability to obtain and continuously hold a passport and appropriate travel visas.
  • Preferred: ten years of related work experience, including at least three years working on a research vessel.
  • Preferred: proficiency in Java, C#, Angular/HTML/JavaScript, or LabVIEW.
  • Preferred: experience with Oracle or other relational databases, multi-tiered or web-based architectures, graphical user interfaces, and code versioning, debugging/profiling, test automation, or integrated development tools.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to pass the required routine medical examination for sailing assignments.

  • Onsite position in College Station, Texas.
  • Requires sailing, including work on a moving ship in confined conditions, 12-hour shifts, and a 24/7 work environment while at sea.
  • Requires on-call work, weekends, holidays, and work outside regular business hours as needed.
  • Position is contingent on continuation of grant and/or contract funding and satisfactory performance.
  • Security-sensitive role subject to a criminal history investigation and applicable university, state, and federal requirements.
