Responsibilities
- Co-own and evolve the data platform architecture across all domains.
- Guide the technical vision and standards for the Data Engineering organization.
- Lead modernization of legacy data infrastructure while maintaining business continuity.
- Design scalable platform architectures supporting multi-terabyte daily workloads.
- Design event-driven, real-time data architectures using Kafka and stream processing.
- Build self-service infrastructure for hundreds of data consumers.
- Author and approve RFCs and technical specifications within the domain.
- Architect Infrastructure as Code strategies and GitOps frameworks.
- Design security frameworks covering encryption, zero-trust access controls, and compliance.
- Establish SLAs, SLOs, observability strategies, and platform reliability improvements.
- Lead complex incident response, post-mortems, and systemic remediation.
- Mentor senior engineers and influence technical direction across teams and domains.
- Collaborate with executives, external stakeholders, and engineering communities.
- Help identify hiring gaps and define interview panels for critical technical roles.
Requirements
- 10–15+ years of professional experience in data platform engineering or a related field.
- Expert proficiency in SQL, Python, and at least one additional programming language.
- Demonstrated mastery of object-oriented design and software engineering principles.
- Deep expertise with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, Oracle, DynamoDB, and MongoDB.
- Extensive Kafka ecosystem experience, including cluster management, Debezium, schema registries, Connect frameworks, and stream processing.
- Advanced experience with Kubernetes and Docker at scale.
- Expert knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and scalability patterns.
- Experience architecting platforms processing multi-terabyte daily workloads and supporting hundreds of concurrent users.
- Expertise with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Jaeger observability stacks.
- Mastery of data orchestration platforms such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
- Experience modernizing legacy data systems without business disruption.
- Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, Informatica, SSIS, and Business Objects.
- Track record of leading complex organization-wide technical initiatives and architectural decisions.
- Ability to influence multiple teams, mentor senior engineers, communicate with executives, and operate in ambiguous environments.
- Recognition as a thought leader in the Data Engineering community is expected.
- Bonus experience includes dbt, Looker, machine learning infrastructure, MLOps architecture, open-source data infrastructure, technical publications or conference talks, and GDPR or CCPA implementation.
