Responsibilities
- Design, build and support highly available, secure and reliable database platforms across SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Azure.
- Expand ING’s PostgreSQL and Azure database capabilities as part of its cloud transformation journey.
- Partner with engineers, architects and delivery teams to deliver scalable infrastructure solutions.
- Drive automation, continuous improvement and modern engineering practices through Azure DevOps, PowerShell and Terraform.
- Monitor, maintain and optimise database platforms and resolve incidents in high-availability environments.
- Lead technical problem-solving for critical systems where reliability, availability and responsiveness are essential.
- Share knowledge, mentor team members and uplift engineering capability across the database community.
Requirements
- Strong experience as a Database Engineer or DBA supporting enterprise-scale SQL Server environments.
- Hands-on PostgreSQL experience or the capability and motivation to build PostgreSQL expertise.
- Exposure to Azure cloud technologies, including Azure SQL.
- Experience with automation and CI/CD pipelines, ideally using Azure DevOps and PowerShell.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code concepts using Terraform.
- An operational mindset and experience supporting business-critical systems and resolving incidents in high-availability environments.
- Ability to collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to deliver practical business outcomes.
- Curiosity, adaptability and a growth mindset, with a desire to learn and influence database platform evolution.
